Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno Karabagh) for 2 days, 1 nightDiscover Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) with "Land of Noah". Day 1 Sevan (Sevanavank), Hayravank, Dadivank, Gandzasar, Stepanakert (overnight) Day 2 Shoushi (Ghazanchetsots Cathedral), Tatev, Areni winery Day 1: The first destination of this tour you one of the most prominent examples of medieval Armenian architecture – Sevanavank Monastery. It was founded in 874 AD by princess Mariam. The remnants of the monastery that was constructed in the 9th century include only two temples – Surb Arakelots and Surb Astvatsatsin, standing among numerous khachkars. The church buildings were constructed from black tuff, which probably gave the monastery its name Sevanavank - “the Black Monastery”. After visiting Sevanavank we will go to Monastery Hayravank, which dates back to the 9th-12th centuries. The three main constructions of the monastery are the church, the chapel and a gavit. The interior of the church is rather simple, but very thrilling when the sun hits the narrow windows of the church. The rays of the sun attack the interior, creating a thrilling sensation of holiness for every single visitor. Next destination of the trip is Dadivank Monastery. It is the largest monastic complex in Artsakh-Karabakh and one of true masterpieces of Armenian medieval architecture. It is located in the northwestern part of Mardakert district of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. After we will visit another Monastery in this district - Gandzasar. “Gandzasar” means treasure mountain in Armenian. On site is the Church of St. John the Baptist, which was built between 1216 and 1238. The overnight is foreseen in Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno Karabakh Republic. Day 2: After the breakfast we will go to the city of Shushi to visit Surp Amenaprkich Ghazanchetsots Cathedral (St. Savior Ghazanchetsots Cathedral), which was built in 1868-1887. It is considered to be the second most important spiritual center in Artsakh. The church was built by the local residents. The consecration of the church took place on September 20, in 1888. The next destination is another famous monument of medieval Armenian architecture - Tatev Monastery, which was built in the 9th-13th centuries. In translation from the old Armenian (grabar) "tatev" means "give wings". Indeed, located at a great height, it seems that Tatev stretches upward to the sky. The walls seem to be a natural extension of the rock that raises it so high. Thanks to the construction of the Wings of Tatev, the longest cable car in the world (5.7 km), the complex has become one of the most visited places in Armenia. On our way back to Yerevan we will have a short stop in Areni winery, where you have an opportunity to taste armenian wine and get acquainted with the history of wine making in Armenia. Private tour to Garni, GeghardThe first stop of our trip will be the Arch of Charents from where a breathtaking view opens to Ararat, probably the most stunning view of the mountain. From this place it seems that Ararat is not on the ground, but is “hanging down” from the sky. The Arch was named in honour of Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents. From here, we will continue our tour to the pagan temple Garni, built in the 1st century AD by the armenian king Trdat. The temple Garni is the only monument connecting with the era of paganism and Hellenism, dedicated to the sun god Mithra. The temple is built according to the rules of the classical Greek architecture and looks very similar to the famous temple of Athens in Greece. There is the bathhouse not far from the palace built in the 3rd century AD and has the features specific to the Roman baths of that time. The next destination of the tour will be the Monastery Geghard, which was built in the 4th century by The First Armenian Catholicos - Gregory the Illuminator. Initially it was called Airivank (cave monastery), then was renamed Geghard, which means <>. The name of the monastery originates from the spear of the Roman soldier who pierced the body of Jesus Christ. Now the spear is presented in the museum of Echmiadzin.
