Khosrov National Park
Khosrov Forest State Reserve, also known as Khosrov National Park, is one of the oldest protected areas in Armenia. Situated in the Ararat Province, near the town of Vedi, it covers an area of about 29,000 hectares (290 square kilometers). Established in 1958, Khosrov National Park is known for its rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and stunning landscapes.
The park encompasses diverse ecosystems, including forests, meadows, steppes, and river valleys. It is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, some of which are rare or endangered. The wildlife in the park includes Armenian mouflon, bezoar goat, Caucasian leopard (though sightings are extremely rare), as well as numerous bird species.
Aside from its natural beauty and biodiversity, Khosrov National Park also holds significant cultural and historical importance. It contains numerous historical and archaeological sites dating back to ancient times, including fortresses, medieval churches, petroglyphs, and ancient settlements. These sites reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region and attract visitors interested in history and archaeology.
Khosrov National Park offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, camping, and eco-tourism. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking to explore Armenia's natural and cultural treasures while enjoying outdoor activities in a pristine wilderness setting. Additionally, efforts are ongoing to preserve and protect the park's natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
